One-time pin access makes multiple transactions quick and efficient. Menus and options are clear and concise. The goal of Global Wallet is to simplify your payments and put you in charge of your global spending. The power is yours.

In developing Global Wallet, Citibank has demonstrated its commitment to its customers and innovation. Determined to stay on the cutting edge of new financial technologies, the bank has invested in a digital ecosystem and partnered with startups to maximise the potential of blockchain, the digital distributed ledger system that underpins e-currencies. Analysts say these new technologies have the potential to radically change the financial services sector. As a leader in global banking, Citibank is embracing innovation and exploring new realms of technology to better serve its customers.

Citibank customers can explore the benefits of Global Wallet even before their journey begins. Global Wallet holders enjoy fee-free cash withdrawals with their Citibank Debit MasterCard at Citi ATMs in over 100 countries – take money out often at no charge to avoid the risk of carrying large amounts of cash. One brilliant feature is the ability to take advantage of exchange rates when they are most favourable. This is especially attractive to anyone who is even slightly savvy about managing his or her money. And nearly every traveller checks exchange rates before and during their trip. Set up an account in one or more of the nine currencies, and when the rates are at their most advantageous in a particular currency transfer funds into that account. Exchange rates are available in real time . You don’t need to be as knowledgeable as a forex trader to come out ahead.

Citibank Global Wallet enables you to electronically exchange Thai Baht for Singapore Dollars, Australian Dollars, Euro, Hong Kong Dollars, Japanese Yen, British Sterling Pounds, Swiss Francs and U.S. Dollars. Planning and monitoring budgets and expenditures are effortless with Global Wallet’s menu of easy-to-understand functions. Using Citi Mobile App Snapshot, it is possible to check the balances in your foreign currencies accounts without signing in. If the balance is running low in a particular account, transferring funds can be done at lightning speed through seamless menu options.

Also, if a friend or relative locally or in another country is a Citibank customer, Global Wallet users can transfer money to their account without incurring a fee by using the Citibank Global Transfer (CGT) platform. Sending money back home to parents, or to children studying overseas has never been easier. Global Wallet can be a useful tool even if you never leave home. The app can be used while shopping online, making purchases from websites or e-commerce channels in other countries using the local currency if you wish. Shop online like a local even when you’re not in that country.

Last but not least, Citibank World MasterCard holders enjoy perks that are the envy of other travellers. Gain access to over 1,000 comfortably appointed lounges in over 500 airports around the world. There is never a shortage of exclusive offers for cardholders from airport retailers, spas, fine dining establishments, hotels, and others. The world is becoming more connected. • What is Citibank Global Wallet?

Citibank Global Wallet is a new service linked to your Citi debit card. It enables purchases in your country or selected currencies abroad online, cash withdrawals from ATMs without conversion. Our system automatically recognizes the transaction currency and debits the right account.
Example: If you activate Citibank Global Wallet and being in the United States, you will make a transaction for USD 10, you will be debited exactly the same amount.

Global Wallet should be activated via the Citi Mobile mobile app. To do so, please log in to the Citi Mobile app and click on the “Enable” button on the first screen, next to the functionality. Activation and use of the Citibank Global Wallet service are free of charge.

You can execute transactions without currency conversion in the following 13 currencies: Polish zlotys (PLN), U.S. dollars (USD), Euros (EUR), Swiss francs (CHF), pounds sterling (GBP), Australian dollars (AUD), Canadian dollars (CAD), Swedish krona (SEK), Norwegian krone (NOK), Danish krone (DKK), Czech koruna (CZK), Hungarian forints (HUF) and South African rand — as long as you have accounts in these currencies.
You can open a foreign currency account on your own in Citibank Online or Citi Mobile. Transactions can also be executed in currencies other than those of your accounts. In that case, transactions will be converted and settled from an account set as a default account.

No. Citibank Global Wallet is a service activated on an existing debit card. Activation of the service does not result in issuing a new debit card.

In the case of a joint account, each joint holder sets their own default account for their card. Each co-holder may have a different or the same default account. Transactions are settled for each co-holder as described above.
If you have your own accounts (e.g. in PLN, EUR, USD, CHF and GBP) and you are a co-holder of other accounts in the same currencies, you may be asked to select one account for each currency when activating Citibank Global Wallet. Citibank Global Wallet or the system will automatically add to Citibank Global Wallet the foreign currency accounts to which you previously linked your card.
The foreign currency accounts that can be activated in Citibank Global Wallet can be found in the Citibank Global Wallet section in Citi Mobile.

A default account i san account to which your debit card is linked. You can link your credit card to your default account in the same way as to your other accounts. You can check how to do it here.
Citibank Global Wallet will recognize a currency of your transaction and will book it in your eligible account. If there are no sufficient funds in your eligible foreign currency account or if you make a payment in a currency other than the currencies of your foreign currency accounts, the transaction will be converted into the currency of your default account and posted there. You can set up only one default account

FX accounts can be credited via an instant transfer between own accounts, via Citibank Online platform or Citi Mobile app. You don’t have an FX account yet? Click here [https://www.citibankonline.pl/apps/acquisition/openaccount/ to open one.

Yes, it will still be possible to re-link a debit card between accounts. You can do it in order to select a default account to settle transactions in case of insufficient funds on an FX account or in case of transactions in currencies other than those of your FX accounts, e.g. in yens or in rubles.
To check which accounts are linked to your debit card, please go to Citibank Online or Citi Mobile.

The transaction will be settled in full and converted from a default account. If there are insufficient funds on your default account, the transaction will be rejected.

When withdrawing cash from ATMs or paying by card at points of sale outside of Poland, you have a possibility to use a Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) service, i.e. an automatic conversion of the transaction currency to a currency of the country where the card was issued, i.e. PLN. This is not a service provided by Citi Handlowy.
If your Citibank Global Wallet is active, when using DCC service you may incur additional costs arising from the unnecessary conversion into PLN. We recommend rejecting the DCC option to avoid additional commissions.

You can activate Citibank Global Wallet if you are a holder of no more than one active debit card. The sticker is another active debit card and therefore activating Citibank Global Wallet in this case will not be possible.

If you have an open FX account (e.g. in EUR), have sufficient funds and make transactions in the same currency, you will not incur any conversion-related costs.
If you do not have sufficient funds on FX accounts, the transaction will be settled from a default account maintained in a foreign currency. The situation is similar when you execute transactions in currencies other than currencies of your accounts. In such cases, the transaction will be converted to a default account currency, thus you will incur conversion costs. See the examples below: Example #1:
Your default account is maintained in EUR and you have EUR 100 available there.
You buy a tea for EUR 3.
The transaction will be settled on your EUR account without conversion. Example #2:
Your default account is maintained in PLN and you have PLN 400 available there.
You buy a bus ticket for EUR 1, but you do not have funds on your EUR account.
The transaction will be converted from EUR to PLN at the Citi Handlowy’s rate and settled on your default account (in PLN).
Why did this happen? Because there were no funds available on the EUR account and in such situations transactions are settled from a default account. Example #3:
Your default account is maintained in PLN and you have PLN 400 available there.
You buy a coffee for JPY 100 (Japanese yen).
The transaction will be converted from JPY to EUR at the Mastercard’s rate and then from EUR to PLN at the Citi Handlowy’s rate and settled on your default account (in PLN).
Why did this happen? Because every transaction in a currency other than PLN, GBP, USD or EUR is settled from a default account, which in this case is in a currency other than the currency of transaction, so the conversion is always performed.

You can open a foreign currency account yourself in Citibank® Online or Citi Mobile®. To open a foreign currency account in Citibank Online, log in and choose Transfers from the top menu, and then click Accounts. Specify if the account you are going to open will be a joint or sole account. Next, select Current account and choose the currency of your new currency account. To open a foreign currency account in Citi Mobile, activate a free of charge Citibank Global Wallet and add a foreign currency account in one of the available currencies.

Due to security concerns, debit card transactions online require a separate activation. To this end, after you log into Citibank® Online, go to Services and Profile -> Manage card. Choose a debit card for which you would like to enable online payments and click Manage. Make sure the Online Payments button is marked with a tick. For even greater security, you can set a separate limit for your debit card online payments.

Travel Smart with Citi Global Wallet

Whether for business or pleasure, the benefits of travelling cannot be overemphasized. From enlightenment to stress-relief, exploring other places has far-reaching effects, making more and more people view it as a necessity rather than a luxury. Now more than ever, with the adverse impact of the pandemic on travel, we’re having to devise creative ways to do so safely and smartly. Expectedly, technology plays a huge role, with various apps and services popping up to digitise the travel experience.

itibank Global Wallet is one of such services, designed to help users enjoy a smooth experience when making payments or withdrawing cash abroad, or when shopping online from foreign websites. So, whether or not you physically travel, with Citibank Global Wallet, you can shop from your favourite stores and pay in a convenient and affordable way.

What is Citibank Global Wallet?

Citibank Global Wallet is a feature available to all Citibank Debit Mastercard holders, which enables users to make payments in foreign currencies. When turned on, users can access up to eight currencies to make purchases overseas at point-of-sale or online and withdraw cash from Citi proprietary ATMs without incurring additional foreign currency conversion fees and administration fees. Say, for example, you visit Spain on holiday and decide to turn on your Citibank Global Wallet feature; Euro payments or cash withdrawals you make with your card while in Spain will be debited directly from your Euro Savings account with Citi, at no additional fees. Whereas, without the feature, payments would be debited from your primary AED account, and currency conversion rates and fees would apply.

Get Started

As an existing Citibank account holder with a Mastercard Debit card, you are eligible to use the Global Wallet feature. All you need to do is go to your Citi Mobile ® App and turn on the feature. Once it is turned on, your Citibank Global Wallet automatically links to all your foreign currency accounts. Currently, the eight (8) available foreign currencies are Swiss Franc, Australian Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Euro, Japanese Yen, New Zealand Dollar, Sterling Pound, and US Dollar.

Benefits of Using Citi Global Wallet

Convenience: Citi Global Wallet enables users to streamline payments and gain control over their international spending. You don’t need to spend time trying to figure out currency exchange rates or conversion fees. In addition, if you’re physically abroad, it eliminates the need to queue at banks or currency exchanges to get local currency. It also removes the risks involved with travelling with large amounts of cash.

Easy Set Up: The feature is available to all Citi Debit Mastercard holders and is easily turned on via the Citi Mobile ® App. While there is no minimum deposit required to turn on the feature, do make sure you have a sufficient balance in your foreign currency account for the transactions you want to carry out. Once the feature is activated, you do not need to manually switch between currencies, as your debit card will automatically choose the right currency for you by matching the currency of the transaction or the withdrawal against the currency of the account. It’s really that easy!

Savings: Without Citi Global Wallet, foreign currency transactions or withdrawals are debited from your primary AED account at the prevailing exchange rate and are subject to administrative fees. With Citi Global Wallet, however, you not only avoid additional administrative fees, but you can also take advantage of favourable exchange rates. Let’s say you have a trip to the US coming up in a few months, but the current USD exchange rate is good; you can add a USD savings account to your Citi Global Wallet now, in anticipation of your trip. To add an account, simply tap «+» under «Citibank Global Wallet», select a currency, and then a Savings Account of the currency you pick will be created and added to Citibank Global Wallet. You can then exchange the foreign currency amount you need to be added to your account.

Virtual Travel Shopping Experience: Another major benefit of the Citi Global Wallet feature is that it is available to you even if you’re not physically abroad. Once the feature is activated, you can use your Citi Debit Mastercard to shop from your favourite online stores around the world and pay in the local currency of the store — as long as it is one of the eight foreign currencies currently available on Citi Global Wallet. So, even if you’re not yet able to travel, you can still experience the pleasures of retail therapy right from the comfort of your living room!

Citi Global Wallet is a must-have for savvy physical and virtual travellers, so activate it today to experience fee-free shopping and all its other benefits!

Are there any charges or transaction fees when using Citibank Global Wallet?

There are no third party or international transaction fees when utilizing your Citibank Global Wallet feature at point-of-sale or online shopping. There will also not be any foreign exchange conversion fees and withdrawal fees at any Citi proprietary ATMs worldwide or when you transfer funds to another Citibank account. Please note that even after you have linked your Citibank Debit Mastercard to your Citibank Global Wallet, you may still be given an option for currency conversion during ATM cash withdrawals or POS transactions due to the Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) process imposed by other banks on overseas transactions. You should reject currency conversion options to avoid incurring additional fees/charges.

DCC is a service that may be offered by a Merchant or Acquirer that enables a Cardholder — when travelling abroad or making a transaction that is not in their home currency (i.e AED) — to choose whether their transaction should be completed in either the local currency or their home currency (i.e AED). If home currency is selected, you will incur a Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) fee charged by the Acquirer with the foreign currency cash withdrawal debited from your Primary account.

Who can use Citibank Global Wallet?

As long as you hold a Citibank Debit Mastercard, you are eligible to use Citibank Global Wallet.

Which foreign currency accounts can be linked to Citibank Global Wallet?

You can link your foreign currency savings accounts to Citibank Global Wallet. If you have multiple accounts in the same foreign currency, please pick only one during enrolment. Once you turn on Citibank Global Wallet, the selected foreign currency accounts will be enrolled for Citibank Global Wallet.

How can I add new foreign currency accounts to Citibank Global Wallet?

Very simple! Just tap «+» under «Citibank Global Wallet», select a currency, and then a Savings Account of the currency you pick will be created and added to Citibank Global Wallet. You can exchange the foreign currency whenever you find the rates favorable.

Should I buy foreign currencies only after turning on Citibank Global Wallet?

You may buy foreign currencies even before turning on Citibank Global Wallet. The service enrolment does not necessarily precede currency exchange.

Do I need to turn off Citibank Global Wallet after traveling?

You do not need to turn off Citibank Global Wallet after traveling. When you spend or withdraw UAE Dirham, the default UAE Dirham account will be debited when Citibank Global Wallet is enabled.

Do I need to manually select the foreign currency account each time when I transact in a different currency?

What happens if I have turned on Citibank Global Wallet and there are insufficient funds in my foreign currency account when making an overseas spending transaction or ATM cash withdrawal?

The transaction or withdrawal will be processed from your primary account if you have insufficient funds in the foreign currency account. You can buy foreign currencies via the Citi Mobile ® App immediately and make the transaction or withdrawal again. Remember to prepare sufficient funds in your foreign currency account before traveling or shopping!

What happens if my foreign currency account is blocked/inactive at the time of transaction or withdrawal?

The transaction or withdrawal will be defaulted to the primary account to proceed the transaction or withdrawal (but exchange rate and any applicable fees, as applied by Citibank UAE at the time of processing, shall apply).

What happens if I transact in or withdraw a foreign currency that Citibank Global Wallet does not support?

Your primary account will be debited. Exchange rates, as applied by Citibank UAE at the time of processing, shall apply.

If the overseas merchant or ATM gives me the option of settling the transaction or withdrawal in foreign currency or local currency, which option should I pick?

If you want to complete the transaction or withdrawal through Citibank Global Wallet, you should choose to settle in foreign currency. If you choose to settle in local currency, the merchant or ATM operator will use its exchange rate to convert the foreign currency transaction or withdrawal to local currency. You will not be able to use Citibank Global Wallet for Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) transactions, and your default primary account will be debited instead.

I have turned on Citibank Global Wallet. Why is my default local currency account debited when I make an overseas spending transaction or ATM withdrawal?

In order to be processed, each transaction should receive an authorization code through the system to proceed with the purchase or ATM withdrawal. If the merchant does not obtain authorization code for the foreign currency transaction, or if you withdraw cash during system downtimes, your default primary account may be debited.

Which account should I select on the overseas ATM’s screen during an overseas cash withdrawal?

Some overseas ATMs may give you the option of choosing which account to withdraw cash from. On such screens, no matter which account type you select, (default account, savings account, or checking/currency account), the withdrawal will be processed from the foreign currency account linked to Citibank Global Wallet. You may still be given an option for currency conversion during ATM cash withdrawals or POS transactions due to the Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) process imposed by other banks on overseas transactions. You should reject currency conversion options to avoid incurring additional fees/charges.

How will the refund of an overseas spending transaction be handled?

When processing the refund, we will endeavor to credit the refund to the foreign currency account debited for the original transaction if the merchant using the same trace number made the refund and/or authorization code of the original transaction so that we are able to trace the original account details. If, however for any reason, we are unable to refund to the original foreign currency account, the refund will be credited to the default primary account, which may be different from the currency of the original foreign currency account. If Citibank Global Wallet is turned off or unavailable at the time of refund processing, currency conversion may be involved and you may suffer an exchange loss as a result.

Is it really free for overseas spending transactions or ATM cash withdrawals made through Citibank Global Wallet?

Citi does not charge any handling fee for overseas spending transactions or Citi ATM cash withdrawals made through Citibank Global Wallet. However, some overseas ATM operators may levy a fee for ATM usage or handling fee for your transaction which case your relevant foreign currency account will be debited for that fee.

Is there a transaction limit for overseas spending transactions made through Citibank Global Wallet?

You can easily keep track of all your transactions or withdrawals performed by accessing the Citi Mobile ® App or Citibank Online, or by viewing your monthly statement.
