Champion Pool: how many copies of Champions are there: Teamfight Tactics Guide

Teamfight Tactics is a core gameplay system that ensures that players can reach the units they want from the store at certain levels.
Teamfight Tactics. TFT, Tactical Combat, Guide, Tutorial, Hints, Tips, Tips, Tutorials
The amount of champions available in a TFT game is not infinite. Therefore, we will have to adapt accordingly.
After the Team Fighting Tactics update on July 1, Riot Games released an interesting piece of information that we were unaware of until now: the number of available copies of each champion, i.e. the TFT champion pool. It implies many things in terms of probability, team building and strategy.
The number of champions in a game

- Tier 1 champions exist in 39 copies in one part of the game.
- Tier 2 champions exist in 26 copies in one part
- Tier 3 champions exist in 21 copies in one part
- Champions of Tier 4 exist in 13 copies in one part
- Champions of Tier 5 exists in 10 copies in one part
What we can deduce
First of all, since the number of copies of a champion is limited, it means that you will have more chances to upgrade a champion that is not very popular in the game to 3 stars.
It is also easier to get a 3-star champion early in the game, before others buy the copies you want.
Since it takes 9 copies of a champion to make it wait for 3 stars, it is almost impossible for two people to have the same level 3 champion with 3 stars. It is absolutely impossible for two people to have a level 4 or level 5 champion with 3 stars. If you are hoping to boost Kayle, look at other players’ boards and make sure no one has the same target as you.
In the same way you can use this information to your advantage. If you find that an opponent’s composition is based in part on a level 4 or level 5 champion, you can buy a copy or two of that champion to make sure the opponent can’t get them and solidify your team.
Finally, if an opponent has copies of a champion you absolutely want, you will need to either eliminate him or pressure him to sell them.

The chances of attracting a TFTchampion pool will depend on its cost in gold, the amount of equal units in play and your level.
Teamfight Tactics has RNG elements, so your success in the game is also influenced by your luck. There is no way to know in advance which unit you will encounter the most during a match, nor their synergy or class. In general, you can build a strategy based on the following factors.
- If there are already several two- or three-star units of a particular champion, your chances of finding additional units of the same type are drastically reduced.
- Your level is also crucial because depending on it you will find a different amount of units with a certain cost in gold. For example, if you have level 1-2 champions that are close to reaching three stars, you should avoid leveling up beyond 4 or 5, as the chance of finding them will decrease.
Rolling in TFT to level up
Along with the TFT rolling possibilities table, each set has a meta that determines the most opportune times to level up and level down for key units that can make up a player’s final game composition.
Here is a standard guide to leveling up for TFT Set Eight:
- Level Four: Stage 2-1
- Level Five: Stage 2-5 or Stage 2-3 if you are looking for three-cost champions after the carousel.
- Level Six: Stage 3-2
- Level Seven: Stage 4-1 or 4-2
- Level Eight: Stage 4-5 or Stage 5-1
- Level Nine: Stage 5-5
There are many exceptions to the standard swing practices. Players looking to re-roll for a level one champion will not spend gold to level up, as it would reduce the odds of reaching single cost champions in the store. When rerolling for one-cost champions, players will want to slowroll (drop to 50 gold each turn) at level five. Two-cost reset champions are reduced at level six and three-cost champions at level seven.
The Level represents each champion level, while the numbers represent the total copies of each level that exist in the store. As you can see, you are much more likely to come across a level one champion than a level five champion, as there are many more copies in the store.
It is worth noting that, if a player is defeated or if some units are sold, they will all return to the existing champion pool. This means that your chances of encountering units will fluctuate throughout a game.
Another factor that determines your chances of encountering copies of certain levels is the level of your character. The higher your level, the higher your chances of encountering high level units. However, your chances of finding low cost units will decrease.
Leveling up is really very important if you want to optimize your chances of upgrading certain units. For example, if you have a lot of level 1 units that need upgrading, you should avoid leveling up beyond 4, as it will significantly reduce your chances of finding level 1 units.
Conversely, leveling up early means that you will increase your chances of finding high-cost units. Some units only appear once you have reached a certain level, for example, level 5 units will only appear in the store once you have reached level 6. However, your chances of seeing them in the store are still very slim, at only 0.5% of a minute.
If you are chasing particularly expensive units to become a TFT champion pool, you will want to level up as quickly as possible, as your chances of finding high-cost units increase considerably once you reach the maximum level.
TFT – Champion Pool Size & Probabilities

There is a fixed champion pool size for each tier which is shared among all players:
- Tier 1: 39
- Tier 2: 26
- Tier 3: 21
- Tier 4: 13
- Tier 5: 10
These numbers represent the total copies of tier X champions that exist in the store, not the unique champions. For example, there are 39 copies of each tier 1 champion, etc.
Note: If a player is defeated or if some units are sold, the champions go back into the common pool.
You must reach at least level 5 to find tier 4 champions and level 6 for tier 5 ones. Considering the data above, upgrading a tier 4 or 5 unit to three stars is quite difficult, particularly the latter as you need nine out of the ten copies available for each champion.

Teamfight Tactics (TFT): champion pool size and draw chances in Set 10

The chances to draw a specific champion in TFT depend on their gold cost, the number of the same units in play, and your level.
Teamfight Tactics has RNG elements, so your success in the game is also influenced by your luck. There is no way to know in advance which unit you will find the most during a match, neither their synergy or class.
Generally, you can build a strategy based on the following factors.
- If there are already several two or three-star units of a particular champion, your chances to find additional units of the same kind are drastically reduced.
- Your level is also crucial because according to it you will find a distinct amount of units with a certain gold cost. For example, if you have tier 1-2 champions that are close to reaching three stars, you should avoid leveling past 4 or 5 as the chance to find them will decrease.

Patch 12.2
5-costs have been strong throughout Gizmos & Gadgets, and they should be, cause they’re Legendary units. But by hitting Level 8, players are able to get a game dominating 2-star 5-cost a bit too often. We’re making it slightly less consistent to hit a 5-cost at Level 8, but adjusting Level 9 to be slightly more consistent.
As a general reminder, these percentages are for each individual unit card that appears in your shop, so the total chance of seeing a 5-cost in your shop at level 8 went down from 22.7% to 19.5%, and the total chance of seeing a 5-cost at level 9 went up from 55.7% to 58.2%.
- Level 8: 15/20/35/25/5% ⇒ 16/20/35/25/4%

Patch 10.25
«10.24 had lots of changes to roll odds that made the dreaded 4-1 roll down less of a nat 20 or bust moment. We’re honestly shocked with how well those changes went, so we have a minor tweak today to see slightly more four cost champs.»

Patch 10.24

Patch 10.20
- Champion probability by Tier at level 8: 14/20/35/25/6% ⇒ 14/25/35/20/6%
Aided by the Chosen mechanic, we’re seeing 3-star Tier 4 champions too frequently for their power level. We’re dialing down their frequency of showing up at level 8 to make sure that their rarity is more appropriate.

- Reduced the chances of rolling a Chosen slightly, as in you probably wouldn’t have noticed if you didn’t read what you’re reading right now. This outta make it just a tad more difficult to force comps.
Patch 10.24
- Increased the base odds of rolling a chosen slightly.
- Chosen Bonus Attack Damage: 30 ⇒ 20
- This affects Yasuo, Aphelios, Zed, Xin Zhao, Ashe, Jhin, Talon, and Warwick.
Patch 10.22
There are a couple of traits that have an unintentional anti-synergy with the chosen mechanic as they lose value with less units on the board. We’re changing the rules of those chosen to count as two units for the sake of their traits.
- Cultist Chosen now count as 2 Cultists and will grant Galio double the amount of star levels (e.g., a two-star Elise will grant Galio four star levels instead of two).
- Keeper Chosen now count as 2 Keepers and grant double the amount of shields
Patch 10.21
- Modified the Chosen appearance rate to reduce some of the worst luck cases and streakiness.
- You are now guaranteed to see at least one Chosen by 2-2.

Champion pool size
There is a fixed champion pool size for each tier which is shared among all players:
- Tier 1: 29
- Tier 2: 22
- Tier 3: 18
- Tier 4: 12
- Tier 5: 10
Neeko’s Help
Currently Neeko’s Help pulls a unit from the pool. If all the units are out of the pool (very rare but can happen), Neeko will actually bounce off and not work. So you will still be able to count the number of active units correctly.
— Riot Mort
Patch 10.12
Neeko’s help now always works, even if there are no more copies in the bag.The extra champ generated is extra, and when sold or the player is defeated does not go back into the bag.

We’re decreasing the number of each champion in the pool. It will be much more difficult for multiple players to build similar teams. Keep an eye on what your opponents are building and find the open synergies for maximum success.

Patch 9.18

Patch 9.18: Tier 3 champions in pool reduced from 21 to 18.
Average gold needed to find a specific champion
The following table, provided by reddit user ereklo, shows how much gold you must spend on average to find a specific champion via rerolls.
For example, if you are level 6 and you are looking for a tier 4 champion such as Brand, you will spend 36.8 gold on average to drop him.
Note: this table is not updated to patch 9.18
Level Tier 1 Tier 2 Tier 3 Tier 4 Tier 5 2 5.67 — — — — 3 8.23 16.8 96.8 — — 4 10.4 14.5 32.8 — — 5 13.8 14.5 20.0 121 — 6 20.4 14.5 16.8 36.8 481 7 24.8 16.8 15.4 24.8 121 8 32.8 20.0 14.5 18.8 48.8 9 48.8 32.8 14.5 12.8 24.8 - if a specific unit is already in the hands of many players, you might need to roll more, and thus spend more gold than expected to acquire it.
- if a specific unit is held by just a few players, your chances increase, so you will require less gold to find it.
This is the math formula used for the chart: 2*(1-(1-X/N)^5)^(-1)
- X is the champion drop rate by level shared by Riot dev Ed “SapMagic” Altorfer in July.
- N is equal to the number of different champions available at each tier: 12 for tier 1, 12 for tier 2, 12 for tier 3, 9 for tier 4, and 6 for tier 5.
- X/N is the chance of picking the right champion out of one time.
- 1-X/N is the chance of picking the wrong champion out of one time.
- (1-X/N)^5 is the chance of picking the wrong champion out of five times (one reroll).
- 1-(1-X/N)^5 is the chance of picking the right champion at least one out of five times.
- (1-(1-X/N)^5)^(-1) is the average amount of rerolls you have to do before finding the champion.
- 2*(1-(1-X/N)^5)^(-1) is the average amount of gold you have to spend before finding the champion.
The chart also assumes that champions of equal cost are being held in equal amount.
